Today I noticed how prasadam was tasty to the tongue, (happiness), while shortly thereafter, while working outside, felt lots of ants biting my foot skin! Dozens! And quite painful. This is material life. There is (happiness), pleasan nerve ending tinglings, and pain, due to unpleasant skin sensations. All skin sensations of the external bag of skin and bones, having not much to do with my eternal soul.

The Bhagavad-gita and other scriptures speak about the quality of personality, the quality of character being extremely important, with regard to yoga practice and self-realization.
I know this well in my own life. We learn from the saints how our minds are covered to one degree or the other, with layers of past thinking patterns, modes of feeling, attitudes, etc.

I had the occasion the past week to realize again how valuable is the “Nectar of Instruction”, otherwise known as ”Upadesamrta” by Srila Rupa Goswami. Some devotees asked me how to best become successful in Krishna consciousness, and I remembered the benediction like statement of Srila Prabhupada within it’s preface.
